ABOUT US

Al Nasr Relief Agency has been operational since 1996 and officially registered as a charity in 2017 (Charity number: 1175479). Founded by a group of women from the North East of Somalia residing in the United Kingdom, the charity  emerged from a shared passion for aiding the vulnerable and less privileged in the Horn of Africa region. The primary objective of the group is to promote sustainable economic and social development by collaborating with local communities.

The charity’s key objectives are:

1. The prevention/relief of poverty in the UK and Somalia through support for education, healthcare, and overall well-being.

2. The preservation and protection of good health by providing healthcare resources and information.

3. The relief and assistance of people in the Horn of Africa affected by natural disasters and war, achieved through the supply of medical aid, infrastructure, shelter, and food.

Given the aftermath of a civil war in 1988, with subsequent disruptions in education, the first priority was advancing education. Supporting education was seen as recognising people’s potential and their right to a better future.

In its initial stages, Al Nasr operated as a membership-based charity, where individual members contributed regular payments of either £5 or £10 per month. Although members did not directly participate in the management or decision-making processes, their financial support played a vital role in funding the organisation's activities and projects. Annually, a gathering takes place during which Trustees update members on accomplishments from the past year and discuss upcoming projects.

In the early stages, members acknowledged the need to establish another women's group, named Al NASR 2, based in the North East Region of Somalia. This additional group shared the same objectives and possessed extensive knowledge of the community's needs, contributing to more successful outcomes. As a result, Al Nasr successfully completed numerous projects related to education, health, and infrastructure.
